On September 18 We Begin Voice to Voice!

We’re thrilled to announce our Indiegogo campaign was funded 116.67% and we are on our way to creating our 7th book, Voice to Voice!

We managed to surpass our $6000 goal and reach $7000 (which means we receive $6720 after Indiegogo subtracts charges.) We had 98 contributions and our campaign had 2206 visitors from around the world. This extra bit of funding will support our writers with transportation to and from readings, reprinting chapbooks, and the incidentals of the writing life, such as contest entries.

Thank you to the upstanding Vancouver literary community – it is beautiful to see how many established writers went out of their way to help us, either by reaching new funders or contributing perks and/or funds. Thank you to each person who clicked through and donated.

Thank you Fred Wah, Amber Dawn, Madeleine Thien and Nick Flynn for lending your voices so we can raise ours.

This campaign was designed by Quinn Bennett and Mateo Zepeda, two engaged, socially-conscious artists who used their skills generously to help us reach you. We lay flowers at their feet!

Gearing Up

On Sep 8, 2014 Elee Kraljii Gardiner and Laura Barron, our Voice to Voice collaborator from Instruments of Change, visited a grad class of UBC composers. We’ve already heard from people who are curious about setting Thursdays Writing Collective’s texts to original compositions for piano and voice.

The first class of our 14th writing session is on Thursday, September 18 at 2pm at Carnegie Community Centre. Everyone is welcome to attend (seating preference is given to Downtown Eastside residents.)

We’re gathering writing prompts from our donors, some of whom contributed funds in exchange for the use of a word of their choice in a text. We’re also writing thank you poems to the donors who selected those perks.

We encourage you to find more info about our project on this website under Voice to Voice or to contact Elee Kraljii Gardiner at thursdayseditor (at) telus.net.
