Word Vancouver 2014

IMG_4176Thanks to SFU’s Writing and Publishing Program, Thursdays Writing Collective had a table of its own at the smorgasbord that is the Word Festival. Held outdoors at the Vancouver Public Library Main Branch, Word is a fair of readings, publishing and magazine tables that usually suffers from Vancouver’s damp weather. Not this year. We had sun and mild weather and consequently a very busy table.

Thank you to all the staffer: Leroy, Jan, Ghia, Ruth, James, Patrick, Neil, Molly and especially Antonette, who coordinated everyone. They answered questions, signed up new participants and sold a bunch of our books. The proceeds go straight to supporting our program. Antonette and Ghia and Neil sold copies of their own books, as well. Thanks to Molly for bringing snacks to sustain us!

IMG_4183Inspired by our last class writing prompt (we wrote thank you haikus and limericks to our funders who contributed to our Indiegogo campaign) Ghia made some darling chapbooks of her own thank you poems. She sewed the tiny pages with embroidery thread and gave them to people who stopped by the table. The scale doesn’t show here but they are smaller than a playing card.

Muriel Marjorie swung by the table and did a spontaneous reading of Joan Morelli’s poem, “Joan of Arc” from Storybox (Otter Press, 2010). Here’s the video:
